Kennel Mangement
The Kennel Management Course is designed for those career oriented individuals who wish to own or manage a boarding or breed kennel. The course combines class instruction with actual kenneling experience in order to provide a broad spectrum of learning opportunities.

Course Schedule
Classes meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a total of ten weeks.
Students are also required to attend a one hour obedience class one evening a week.
Total Course Hours - 360
Home Study Requirements
Students are expected to Complete reading assignments and other projects at home.

- Canine nutrition
- Terminology pertaining to dog care and breeding
- American Kennel Club Breed Identification
- Public relations and advertising
- Control and handling of dogs
- Understanding canine behavior(Canine Psychology)
- Effects of stress on dogs in a kennel environment
- Identification and control of internal & external parasites
- Laboratory procedures: Fecal exams, Heartworm checks, mange scrapping
- Breeding techniques
- Raising puppies
- First aid for dogs
- Understanding common diseases which affect dogs
- Cat care and boarding
- Basic obedience training
- Daily grooming care and maintenance
- Connecticut State Laws pertaining to dogs and kennels
Practical Experience
- Daily maintenance of the kennel
- Care of puppies
- Care of pregnant bitches (if available)
- Learning to communicate with a variety of canine personalities
- Laboratory procedures: Fecal exams, Heartworm checks, Mange scrappings and use of a microscope
- Daily grooming of kennel dogs
- Socializing young dogs
- Helping dogs with the emotional problems due to the stress of being kenneled
- Public relations and advertising
- Control and handling of dogs
- Proper handling of scared or nervous dogs
