Professional Dog Grooming
The Professional Dog Grooming Course is designed for those career oriented individuals who wish to own or manage a grooming salon. The course combines detailed instruction with actual grooming experience in order to provide a wide spectrum of learning opportunities.

Course Schedule
Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for a total of ten weeks.

Students are expected to complete reading assignments at home.

- Handling and control of dogs
- Canine Psychology
- Pre-bath preparation
- Shop management
- Types of equipment and grooming supplies
- Safety precautions for groomers and dogs
- Terminology pertaining to dog care and grooming
- Brushing and combing techniques
- Removal of mats
- Fundamental's of cage and fluff drying dogs
- Ear plucking and cleaning
- Nail trimming
- Use of scissors and clippers
- First aid
- Identifcation and control of internal and external parasites
- Poodle clips
- Terrier cuts
- Spaniel cuts
- Clipping and styling for mixed breed dogs
- Connecticut State laws pertaining to the operation of a grooming salon
Practical Experience
Students participate in the actual grooming of dogs totaling approximately 3/4 of the total course hours. Included in the practical experience will be a variety of the following clips and breeds.

Tutition
The tutition cost is $4,000 plus a $100.00 textbook fee. There is also a $50.00 registration fee. The price of the tuition does not include the price of the grooming kit.
