School Objectives and Philosphy

The Connecticut K-9 Education Center offers courses which are specifically designed for those who wish to pursue a career in Professional Dog Grooming, Dog Training, or Kennel Management. It is our belief that in order to be proficient in these careers a balance of in-depth study and actual experience is necessary. In order to achieve this goal, each course is carefully structured to combine lecture hours with supervised experience to prepare our students for their chosen career.

It is recommended that students who plan to own a business first seek additional business management courses and receive at least two years experience. The Connecticut K-9 Education Center has the right to update or change the Course curriculum as stated in this catalog.

Class Size

The Connecticut K-9 Education Center limits the enrollment of each course to four to eight students at any given time.

Registration Procedure

Terms for Tuition Payment

The following agreement is a copy of our payment schedule as it appears in our Enrollment Contract.

I agree to pay the course fees as follows in accordance with this Enrollment Contract. I understand that failure to meet the payment schedule may result in suspension from class pending payment.

Refund Policy

The following is a copy of the Refund Policy it appears on the Enrollment contract.

If a student is dismissed or withdraws from the school, tuition wil1 refunded only in accordance with the published refund policy as stated in this Enroll Contract. If a student withdraws prior to the start of the program all monies will be refunded except the Registration Fee. Tuition refunds shall be computed on a pro rata, week by week basis. If a student attends any part of a week, that week shall be computed as a full attended week. There will be no refunds given after the fifth week has started. Withdrew during: 1st week - 80% refund of total tuition 2nd week - 70% refund of total tuition 3rd week - 60% refund of total tuition 4th week - 50% refund of total tuition.

Course Withdrawl

A student must submit a signed, date written Notice of Withdrawal to the Director of Admissions of the school. All refunds shall be based on and computed from the last day of verifiable attendance. Withdrawal forms are available from the school for your convenience.

Leave of Absence

A leave of absence may be granted in cases of prolonged illness or extreme family emergency. Request for a leave of absence must be made in written to the Director of Admissions.

Student Dismissal

The Connecticut K-9 Education Center reserves the right to dismiss any students in the event the student violates the, rules of the school as stated in the Student Rules & Regulations. If a student is dismissed, the tuition will be refunded in accordance with the published refund policy as stated in the Enrollment Contract.

Student Rules

A written notice shall be given to students who fail to obey the school rules. The Connecticut K-9 Education Center reserves the right to dismiss any student in the event the student violates the rules of the school as stated in the Student Rules and Regulations.

Rules and Regulations

  1. All injuries must be immediately reported to your instructor.
  2. If for any reason you must be late or absent, please notify your inductor by nine o'clock. Whenever possible, please give advanced notice of an intended absence.
  3. Alcoholic beverages and drugs are prohibited on the premises. Anyone attending the school under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be dismissed.
  4. Unnecessary roughness with the animals will not be tolerated.
  5. Disruptive conduct and foul language are prohibited.
  6. The soliciting of business while on the premises is expressly prohibited.
  7. Smoking will be allowed in designated areas only.
  8. Students must abide by the student dress code.
  9. Personal phone calls will be limited to emergencies.
  10. Students are responsible for work missed due to absenteeism.
  11. Students are expected to follow the specific rules for their particular course.
  12. Students may bring their own lunch or go out for lunch and eat in the student lounge. The lunch period is one hour.

Diplomas

A diploma will be awarded to those students who have met the course requirements and have achieved a final grade average of 70% or above.

Course Calendar

The Connecticut K-9 Education Center offers courses throughout the year. Students wishing to enroll in summer or fall courses are advised to register at least one month in advance as these sessions are the most popular.

Dress Code

Student Services

Library: A reference room stocked with animal care books is provide for those students who wish to further pursue a special interest.

Bookstore: The bookstore selection of books re1 Also included in the in-depth study in any in stock are availability

Parking: Student parking is available at the school at no charge to the student.

Local Information: Maps of the local area listing restaurants and housing possibilities are available upon request.

Student Lounge: The student Lounge gives the student a place to relax or study when classes are not in session.

Housing: There are several efficiency units available within a three to five mile radius of Connecticut K-9. These units include private rooms equipped with a refrigerator, stove, T.V., phone and shower. This area provides people with easy access to several banks, movie theaters shopping centers, Laundromats, grocery stores, and restaurants. The school is also conviently located 1/2 mi1e from the bus line into downtown Hartford.

Graduation Requirements

The Connecticut K-9 Education Center is aware that individual students may find it necessary to maintain employment while enrolled in a course at the center, however, students are reminded that course hours are very demanding and serious consideration should be given to the planning of time while enrolled in the course.

  1. Students must receive a grade average of 70% or better.
  2. Students must complete all required course work.
  3. Students are required to take a final exam.

Job Placement Assistance

  1. Graduating students receive a personal letter of recommendation.
  2. Upon graduation, each student is given a complete transcript of their grades.
  3. Known job openings at our facility and other boarding, grooming or training will be listed and available to the students.
  4. Graduates may contact the center at any time in reference to new job listings.

Student Transcripts

A complete course transcript is given to each student upon completion of the course. Transcripts are often helpful when seeking employment because they give a prospective employer a detailed view of your course involvement. Students who withdraw from the courses will be given a transcript only upon written request.
